Holocaust Remembrance Day in Serbia, known as Dan sećanja na žrtve holokausta, is observed every April 22. This official remembrance day honors the memory of Serbs, Romani people, and Jews who were victims of crimes against humanity during World War II, particularly in the Independent State of Croatia and occupied Yugoslavia. The date was chosen to commemorate the escape attempt from the Jasenovac concentration camp on April 22, 1945, when over 1,000 prisoners revolted; most were killed, but fewer than 100 managed to escape. During the Holocaust, approximately 14,500 Jews were murdered in Serbia, representing over 90% of the Jewish population at that time. On this day, numerous memorial ceremonies are held across Serbia to remember the victims of the Nazi regime.
