World Blind Sports Day is observed worldwide every April 24 to commemorate the founding anniversary of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and to promote sports for blind and partially sighted individuals. The day was launched in 2021 to celebrate IBSA's 40th anniversary and emphasizes that sports are accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of competition. Various sports have been adapted for visually impaired athletes, including beep baseball, blind cricket, and goalball, which was first included as an official medal sport at the 1976 Summer Paralympics. IBSA, founded in 1981, aims to integrate blind and partially sighted people into society through sport and oversees several Paralympic sports, including blind football and para judo. The observance encourages participation in sports and highlights the importance of inclusion for individuals with visual impairments.
