World Corrosion Awareness Day is observed worldwide every April 24, having been established in 2010 by the World Corrosion Organization. The day aims to promote education and best practices in corrosion control, addressing the socio-economic benefits of resource conservation and environmental protection. Corrosion, a natural process where refined metal deteriorates due to environmental reactions, poses significant challenges across critical sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and transportation. Events organized by the World Corrosion Organization, in collaboration with partners like the European Federation of Corrosion and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance, include seminars, webinars, and workshops aimed at engineers, scientists, and policymakers. The day highlights the importance of effective corrosion prevention strategies to mitigate potential catastrophic failures and economic losses, which are estimated to exceed $2.5 trillion annually. After a seven-year hiatus, the observance was revived in 2017 and continues to emphasize the critical need for corrosion control.
