Carnival Day in Sint Maarten is celebrated on April 30 each year, marking one of the most significant events in the Caribbean. This vibrant festival takes place on the Dutch side of the island of Saint Martin, which is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The origins of the Carnival can be traced back to the government’s previous organization of the Saint Martin’s Day Parade, which was moved to spring to avoid competition with the French side's festivities. The celebration includes a Grand Carnival Parade, street parties, pageants, and musical concerts, primarily managed by the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation since 1990. The Carnival Village in Philipsburg serves as the main hub for activities, featuring booths for food, entertainment, and local merchandise. Notable events include the J’ouvert street party, the Labor Day Parade on May 1, and the ceremonial burning of the King Momo effigy on the final night, symbolizing the end of the festivities.
