International Day to End Corporal Punishment is observed worldwide every April 30. Launched in 2021 by the initiative End Corporal Punishment, the day aims to support child victims of corporal punishment and advocate for its global prohibition. Corporal punishment, which inflicts physical pain or discomfort, has historically been applied to children, prisoners, and in military contexts, but is increasingly viewed as inhumane, especially in the Western world. As of 2023, 128 countries have outlawed all forms of school corporal punishment, while it remains legal in 17 U.S. states and some regions in Africa and Southeast Asia. The campaign encourages individuals to sign petitions, participate in advocacy campaigns, donate to relevant nonprofits, and spread the message on social media using the hashtag #EndCorporalPunishment. The ultimate goal is to create a world where children can grow up free from violence and where everyone's right to live without violence is respected.
