Thai Women’s Day is observed in Thailand every August 1, commemorating the contributions of women and honoring Queen Sirikit, the queen consort of King Rama IX. Established in July 2003, the day was initiated by the Ministry of Interior, the National Council of Women of Thailand, and various women’s groups across the country. The date was chosen to coincide with the beginning of festivities for the Queen's birthday, which is on August 12. Events and activities on this day are organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development, and the National Council of Women of Thailand, under the patronage of Queen Suthida. While it is an official observance, it is not a non-working day unless it falls on a weekend. Throughout her life, Queen Sirikit has been involved in charity work and the promotion of Thai culture, making her a significant figure in the celebration of this day.
