Agent Orange Awareness Day is observed worldwide every August 10 to commemorate the date in 1961 when the U.S. military first used Agent Orange in Vietnam. This day aims to recognize the detrimental health effects of Agent Orange exposure on both Vietnamese people and Vietnam veterans, including links to cancer and birth defects. The observance was initiated in 1988 to inform veterans about these health risks and encourage them to seek assistance from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Various veterans and military organizations promote the day by organizing candlelight vigils, memorial events, and campaigns against chemical warfare. Participants may also honor the memory of those affected by lighting candles, donating to veterans' organizations, and sharing information on social media using the hashtag #AgentOrangeAwarenessDay.
