Queen Mother’s Birthday and Mother’s Day is observed in Thailand every August 12, honoring Queen Sirikit, the mother of the current King Maha Vajiralongkorn. This national holiday celebrates her contributions and is marked by various festivities that begin on August 1, coinciding with Women’s Day. The celebrations include street decorations featuring portraits of the Queen, flowers, colored lights, and national flags. Candle-lighting ceremonies, charitable events, and fireworks displays are held across the country in her honor. Since 1976, this day has also served as Mother’s Day, a shift from its original date of April 15, which was made to recognize Queen Sirikit as the mother of all Thai people. It is customary for children to present their mothers with small gifts adorned with jasmine, regarded as the Queen’s flower.
