Fallen Paratroopers Remembrance Day is observed in Ukraine every August 2, honoring the memory of Ukrainian paratroopers who died defending their country. This day has its origins in the Soviet Union's Airborne Forces Day, which was celebrated on the same date to commemorate the establishment of the Soviet airborne troops. In Ukraine, the day was unofficially recognized from 1992 to 1998 and became official in 1999. The main remembrance ceremony occurs at the Smolyanske military cemetery in Zhytomyr, attended by the Air Assault Forces Command, local military personnel, veterans, and families of the fallen. Smaller ceremonies are also held across various military units of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, including brigades located in Hvardiiske, Bolhrad, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Lviv, and Kramatorsk. This observance honors all who served in the Ukrainian airborne forces and participated in peacekeeping missions and the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.
