Renewable Energy Day, also known as Akshay Urja Diwas, is observed in India every August 20. This day was established in 2004 by the Indian Ministry for New & Renewable Energy Sources to promote the development and use of renewable energy as an alternative to traditional energy sources. The date commemorates the birthday anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, a former Prime Minister who advocated for modern technology and science in the country. The inaugural event took place in New Delhi, where a commemorative stamp was released, and 12,000 schoolchildren formed a human chain to support renewable energy initiatives. Subsequent events have been held in various cities, including Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Panchkula, Haryana.
