Nostalgia Night, or Noche de la nostalgia, is celebrated in Uruguay every August 24, the eve of the country's Independence Day. This cultural observance features broadcasting stations and dance clubs playing old hits, with many people attending nostalgic dance parties that last throughout the night. The event originated in 1978 when Paul Lecueder, owner of CX-32 Radiomundo, first aired classic songs on Independence Day eve, a practice that has since been adopted by other radio stations. Initially focused on music from the 1960s and early 1970s, the playlist has expanded to include major hits from the 1980s and 1990s, ensuring that all songs played are at least two decades old. The event has grown into a commercial success, with numerous venues organizing all-night retro-themed parties, and it is officially supported by Uruguay's Ministry of Tourism.
