Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day is observed worldwide every August 28, providing an opportunity for pet owners to remember their beloved pets who have passed away. The day was created by Deborah Barnes in honor of her Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz, who died on August 28, 2013. The concept of the "Rainbow Bridge," a place where pets are believed to go after death, originated from a poem written by Edna Clyde-Rekhy in 1959. Although the poem was initially shared privately, it gained widespread recognition after being published by the American advice column Dear Abby in 1994. People celebrate this day by sharing stories, photos, and videos of their deceased pets, creating memorials, or making donations to animal welfare organizations in their pets' names. Additionally, some may choose to adopt a new pet as a way to heal and honor the memory of their lost companions.
