August 30: Archivist Day (Kyrgyzstan)

Archivist Day is observed in Kyrgyzstan every August 30, a professional holiday established by the Kyrgyz government in 1993 at the request of the State Archive Agency. This day commemorates the resolution “On Organization of Archives in the Kirghiz Autonomous Oblast” passed on August 30, 1926, which led to the creation of the Archive Bureau. Archivists, who are responsible for the assessment, collection, organization, preservation, and provision of access to valuable archives and media records, are recognized on this day. In Kyrgyzstan, there are currently three central, eight regional, and 53 district state archives, along with separate state archives in the cities of Bishkek and Osh. Approximately 5,000 archive employees receive congratulations on their professional holiday, highlighting the significance of their work in preserving the nation's history and culture.
