Buddhist Lent Ends, also known as Thadingyut Full Moon in Myanmar and Boun Ok Phansa in Laos, is observed in these two countries. It occurs every year on the 15th day of the 11th month of the lunar calendar. This holiday marks the conclusion of a three-month spiritual retreat known as vassa, during which Buddhists engage in meditation and prayer. The tradition was established by Buddha to honor his mother, who passed away shortly after his birth, and it commemorates his preaching for three months in her memory. The last day of Lent is celebrated as the Festival of Lights, during which people enjoy free movies and stage shows, visit pagodas and monasteries, and partake in traditional foods sold at various stalls. Additionally, young people show respect to their parents, elderly relatives, and teachers.
