The Day of Belarusian Cinema is observed in Belarus every December 17, commemorating the foundation of the Belarusian film industry in 1924. This date marks the establishment of Belgoskino, the Belarusian State Cinema, which was created to develop the country's film sector. The first Belarusian feature film premiered in Minsk a year later, and the first film studio, Soviet Belarus, was founded in 1928, later renamed Belarusfilm in 1946, which remains the main film studio in the country. The day celebrates the achievements of the Belarusian film industry, highlighted during the 90th anniversary in 2014 when Belarusfilm released a special DVD featuring twelve notable films. These films, such as "The Adventures of Buratino" and "King Stakh's Wild Hunt," were primarily produced during the Soviet era, showcasing the rich cinematic heritage of Belarus.
