World Computer Literacy Day is observed worldwide every December 2. It was launched in 2001 by NIIT, an Indian skills and talent development company, to mark its 20th anniversary and address the gender disparity in computer usage, as research indicated that most computer users were male at that time. The day aims to encourage the development of computer and technological skills among women and children in India and celebrates the role of computers in people's lives. Additionally, it seeks to improve IT education and promote digital literacy in underserved communities globally. NIIT Limited, established in 1981 by Rajendra Singh Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani, is the organization behind this observance, which continues to highlight the importance of computer literacy in today's digital age.
