National Farmers Day, known as Kisan Divas, is observed in India every December 23. This holiday commemorates the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, a prominent Indian politician who served as the 5th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the 5th Prime Minister of India. Born into a peasant family, Charan Singh was a strong advocate for farmers' rights and opposed policies that threatened their ownership of land. His political career began in 1937, and he was known for his support of Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent independence movement. Due to his significant contributions to Indian agriculture and his dedication to the welfare of farmers, his birthday is celebrated nationwide as a day to honor the agricultural community.
