December 24: Archivists’ Day (Ukraine)

Archivists' Day is observed in Ukraine every December 24, a professional day established by President Leonid Kuchma during his administration in 1998. This day acknowledges the significant contributions of Ukrainian archives to the development of national culture, science, and other public spheres. While no special events are organized at the state level, employees of state archive institutions celebrate by organizing their own gatherings and exchanging congratulations among colleagues, family, and friends. The celebration also encourages the further development of archival work in Ukraine. Additionally, the contributions of archivists to the preservation of cultural heritage are recognized in other CIS countries, such as Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, which celebrate their own versions of Archivists' Day on different dates.
