December 25: Constitution Day (Taiwan)

Constitution Day in Taiwan is observed every December 25, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of China in 1946. This day marks the transition from one-party rule of the Kuomintang to a democratic constitution, which was adopted by the National Assembly and came into effect a year later. Although Constitution Day is not a public holiday and many businesses remain open, it is sometimes marked by official events. The date was officially designated as Constitution Day in 1963, but its significance has diminished over the years, often overshadowed by Christmas celebrations. The first constitution of the Republic of China was established in 1912, following the Xinhai Revolution, and subsequent provisional constitutions were introduced in 1931.
