World Catholic Education Day, also known as the World Day of Catholic Education, is observed worldwide every year 40 days after Easter, coinciding with the Feast of Ascension. Established by the Congress of the International Office of Catholic Education (OIEC) in 2022, the day aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Catholic educational institutions to global development and promote a culture of peace. Activities on this day include special prayers, seminars, webinars, speeches, and presentations organized by Catholic educational institutions and related organizations. The OIEC, which promotes Catholic education and is recognized by the Holy See, initially created this observance in 2002 but relaunched it in 2021 after it was forgotten. Catholic schools, which serve millions of students globally, are praised for their role in providing educational opportunities, particularly for the poor and girls, despite facing criticism regarding secularism and colonial cultural dominance.
