It honors the victims of the Rwandan genocide and recognizes three categories of heroes: Imanzi, Imena, and Ingenzi. The Imanzi category includes ultimate heroes like Major General Fred Rwigyema, while Imena features figures such as Agathe Uwilingiyimana, the prime minister killed during the genocide. Ingenzi comprises living heroes known for their remarkable achievements. The celebrations involve dances, songs, and poems that highlight the bravery of fallen heroes, which are broadcasted on television and radio nationwide.
