The Feast of St. Agatha is celebrated on February 5 and serves as a symbol of hope for breast cancer survivors, rape victims, and wet nurses. St. Agatha is recognized as the patron and protector of these groups and is also considered a strong intercessor for victims of severe burns. The feast is observed twice a year, in February and August, reflecting the devotion to her. St. Agatha, a revered virgin martyr, is associated with various traditions, including the wearing of a traditional dress called "Sacco" by the people of Catania during the celebrations. Her martyrdom involved cruel torture and imprisonment, during which she received comfort from St. Peter the Apostle in visions. The feast is also recognized as part of UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
