Civic Holiday is observed in most Canadian provinces on the first Monday of August. This holiday is known by various names depending on the region, such as British Columbia Day in British Columbia, Saskatchewan Day in Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick Day in New Brunswick. In Alberta, it is called Heritage Day, celebrating the diverse heritage of Albertans, while in Toronto, it is referred to as Simcoe Day, honoring the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. The holiday is not generally observed in Quebec, Yukon, Newfoundland, and Labrador. Schools are closed on this day, and federal and municipal government employees receive a day off. Additionally, the Scotiabank Caribbean Cultural Festival takes place in Toronto during this weekend, coinciding with Emancipation Day.
