Coastal Cleanup Day is observed in Russia every first Sunday of June, a local adaptation of the International Cleanup Day organized by PADI, the world's largest recreational diving membership and training organization. This event, which began in 2003, is part of PADI's Project AWARE aimed at protecting oceans and typically involves thousands of volunteers cleaning oceans, lakes, rivers, and shorelines. Due to the cold weather in September, which is when International Cleanup Day is held, Russia has chosen to celebrate this ecological observance in June when conditions are more favorable. The event is coordinated by the local PADI diving society and often extends over an entire weekend, engaging communities in environmental conservation efforts.
