Fourth Saturday in September: European Mushroom Day

European Mushroom Day, also known as the European Day of Action for Fungi, is observed worldwide on every fourth Saturday of September. The day aims to highlight the significance of fungi, particularly mushroom-producing varieties, in ecosystems and daily life. Established to recognize the role of fungi, the event features over a hundred mushroom-themed activities across various European countries, including mushroom hikes, eco tours, exhibitions, seminars, and public lectures. Each year, organizers select "the edible mushroom of the year" to serve as the day's theme, with the inaugural event in 2016 dedicated to Imleria badia, commonly known as the day bolete. Fungi are essential for decomposing organic matter, forming symbiotic relationships with plants, and providing food sources, including delicacies like truffles.
