National Dairy Day is observed in Thailand every January 17, celebrating the dairy farming industry and commemorating the foundation anniversary of the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand. The day was established by the Thai government in 1987 and is linked to the history of the Thai-Danish Dairy Farm, which was opened in Saraburi in 1962 following King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s interest in Danish dairy practices. Events are organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization, and dairy cooperatives to promote the consumption of milk and dairy products among the population. Currently, Thailand's per capita consumption of dairy products is approximately 17 liters per year, significantly lower than in other Asian countries, and one of the goals of National Dairy Day is to increase this figure to at least 25 liters.
