Gun Appreciation Day is observed in the United States every January 19. This somewhat controversial observance was initiated by gun rights and conservative activists in response to the renewed debate over gun control following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including 20 children. The day was established to promote support for gun ownership, particularly in light of calls for stricter gun regulations. Gun rights groups encourage Americans to visit gun stores, shows, and ranges on this day to demonstrate their advocacy for the Second Amendment. Although it began as a one-time campaign, some supporters continue to recognize Gun Appreciation Day by posting on social media. Additionally, there are other pro-gun rights observances in the U.S., such as Second Amendment Day, celebrated in certain states.
