Armed Forces Day is observed in Mali on January 20 each year. This day commemorates the founding of the Malian army, which was established on October 10, 1960, and highlights its crucial role in maintaining peace within the Republic of Mali. The Malian Armed Forces consist of several branches, including the Army, Gendarmerie, Air Force, National Guard, and National Police, all overseen by the Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans. Following the collapse of the army in 2012 during the conflict with Tuareg forces, efforts have been made to rebuild and organize the military, which now includes various battalions and a small navy.
