The Day of National Remembrance for the SAF 44 is observed in the Philippines every January 25. This day commemorates the 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF) who were killed during the Mamasapano clash in 2015, when they engaged Islamic militants in a failed operation to apprehend high-ranking terrorists. The incident resulted in significant casualties, prompting public outcry and calls for justice, with many labeling it a massacre. The Philippine government officially declared this day a special working holiday in 2017, and remembrance ceremonies are held to honor the heroism and sacrifice of the SAF 44 and all police officers who have died in the line of duty. These ceremonies are attended by government officials, police personnel, and the families of the deceased officers. The first observance took place in 2018, following the establishment of the day by President Rodrigo Duterte.
