National Tourism Day is observed in India every January 25, established by the Indian government to highlight the significance of tourism for the country's economy. This day celebrates India's rich history and cultural and geographical diversity, which make it a popular destination for foreign travelers. Various forms of tourism are promoted, including cultural, heritage, nature, and eco-tourism, among others. The Ministry of Tourism is responsible for implementing national policies aimed at the promotion and development of tourism. The tourism industry employs over 7.7% of the Indian workforce, and millions of foreign tourists visit the country annually. National Tourism Day also acknowledges the tourism sector's contribution to the growth and sustainability of local communities and tourist destinations. Additionally, India participates in the UN World Tourism Day celebrations on September 27, having hosted the event in 2008.
