National Police Anniversary Day, or Araw ng Pagkakatatag ng Pambansang Pulisya, is observed in the Philippines every January 29 to commemorate the formation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in 1991. This day honors the thousands of men and women who serve in the police force and risk their lives to maintain peace, law, and order. The PNP was established by merging the Philippine Constabulary and the Integrated National Police, following significant reforms after the ousting of dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. The PNP is headquartered in Quezon City and consists of approximately 228,000 active personnel. Since its inception, National Police Anniversary Day has been celebrated annually since 1992, serving as a working holiday to recognize the contributions of law enforcement in the country. It is important to note that this day should not be confused with National Police Service Day, which is celebrated on August 12 to mark the establishment of the Philippine Constabulary in 1901.
