January 31: Bug Busting Day

National Bug Busting Day is observed in the United Kingdom on January 31, June 15, and October 31. This school campaign aims to reduce the incidence of head lice and prevent their spread in classrooms. It was launched to combat the stigma associated with head lice and encourages parents and educators to regularly check children for lice. The campaign is spearheaded by Community Hygiene Concern (CHC), in partnership with the UK Department of Health and Social Care. The Bug Busting method involves a systematic process of wet combing to detect and eradicate lice, using specially designed Bug Buster Kits that include combs and instructional materials. By having all students checked simultaneously, the campaign seeks to prevent lice from circulating among students.
