January 31: Feast of Saint Sarkis (Armenia)

The Feast of Saint Sarkis is observed in Armenia on January 31 every year. Saint Sarkis the Warrior, a revered figure in Armenian Christianity, is celebrated as the patron saint of love and youth. He is believed to have been born in Cappadocia and became a significant military leader during the reign of Constantine the Great. Following his refusal to convert to Zoroastrianism, he was executed by the Sassanid emperor. On this feast day, special liturgies are held in churches named after him, along with a ceremony blessing the youth. Folk customs include young people eating salty bread the night before, hoping to dream of their future spouse, and placing a plate of flour or porridge at their door to catch the imprint of the saint's horse, which is seen as a sign of good luck.
