Social Workers’ Day is observed in Belarus on January 5. This professional holiday was established by a presidential decree on March 26, 1998, to emphasize the significance of the social protection system in the country. The holiday highlights the role of social workers in assisting the poor, providing various social payments, and supporting senior citizens. In Belarus, there are 156 territorial centers of social protection that serve over 1.5 million people, including more than 75,000 seniors and handicapped individuals receiving home services. Social workers also offer psychological and medical aid, as well as rehabilitation and adaptation for the handicapped. Additionally, they address family issues and provide state aid and facilities for families with children.
