Uruguay Children's Day, also known as Epiphany or Día del Niño, is celebrated annually on January 6 in Uruguay. This public holiday focuses on giving presents to children, marking the end of the Christmas season. Unlike many other countries where children receive gifts on Christmas Day, Uruguayan children traditionally receive their gifts on this day. The night before, children polish their shoes and leave them outside, anticipating the arrival of presents from the "wise men." On the morning of Día del Niño, they find their shoes filled with gifts. This celebration has its roots in the Catholic holiday commemorating the visit of the wise men to the birthplace of Jesus, but it has evolved in Uruguay due to the secularization of religious holidays in the early 20th century.
