January 7: Tricolor Day (Italy)

Tricolor Day, also known as National Flag Day, is observed in Italy every January 7. Established in December 1996, it commemorates the national flag, which features the green, white, and red tricolor. The flag was first adopted by the Cispadane Republic, a short-lived republic created by Napoleon Bonaparte, and was designed to resemble the French Tricolor. Although not a public holiday, special events are held across the country, with an official celebration taking place in Reggio Emilia, the city where the tricolor was first adopted. The flag gained significance during the Risorgimento, symbolizing unity among those fighting for Italy's freedom and independence. It was officially adopted by the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1848 and later became the flag of the newly formed Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
