July 1: Philippine Air Force Day (Philippines)

Philippine Air Force Day, observed every July 1, commemorates the formation of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) as a separate branch of the country's armed forces in 1947. This day recognizes the PAF's history, which traces back to the Philippine National Guard created for World War I, and highlights its evolution through various phases, including its engagement with the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces during World War II. The PAF currently operates over 200 aircraft and employs more than 17,600 active personnel, organized into three tactical commands and seven air wings. As a working holiday in the Philippines, employees are required to work unless it is their day off, and they do not receive additional compensation for working on this day. The celebration serves to honor the contributions and sacrifices of the PAF in ensuring national security and aerial warfare capabilities.
