Gospel Day is a public holiday observed in Kiribati every year on July 10, typically celebrated near National Day. The holiday commemorates the spread of Christianity in the islands, where traditional religions were practiced before the arrival of European settlers in the 19th century. Today, approximately 56% of the population identifies as Roman Catholic, while about 34% are Congregationalist Protestant, with the remaining 10% belonging to various other faiths. The celebration is organized by the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches and usually takes place at the Bairiki National Stadium in the capital. A combined religious service is conducted by leaders from both churches, followed by local festivities in each village, where people engage in singing and dancing, showcasing religious songs performed by separate groups from the two churches.
