Maritime Day in China, also known as China National Maritime Day, is observed every July 11 to commemorate the first voyage of the renowned mariner and fleet admiral Zheng He during the Ming Dynasty. This holiday celebrates Zheng He's significant maritime expeditions, which took place between 1405 and 1433, making Ming China a dominant naval power. The day was first celebrated in 2005 to mark the 600th anniversary of Zheng He's initial voyage and has been observed annually since. Various events and activities are organized by the government to promote the country's maritime programs and highlight China's role in the International Maritime Organization. China's state-controlled shipping fleet, which includes approximately 210,000 ships, plays a crucial role in its maritime activities, with around 90% of foreign trade conducted via ocean shipping.
