Ukrainian Peacekeepers' Day is observed in Ukraine every July 15. Established by the Verkhovna Rada in 2003, the holiday commemorates the 240th Separate Special Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which participated in peacekeeping missions in the former Republic of Yugoslavia during the early to mid-1990s. The date marks the departure of two aircraft from Dnepropetrovsk to Bosnia, where Ukrainian peacekeepers were quickly involved in hostilities upon arrival in Sarajevo. This day honors the courage, valor, and exemplary duty of peacekeepers, as well as the memory of those who sacrificed their lives while ensuring peace abroad. The observance is recognized at the state level, reflecting the significance of their contributions to international peacekeeping efforts.
