July 22: Tree Planting Day (Central African Republic)

National Tree Planting Day is observed in the Central African Republic every July 22. This event was initiated in 2006 in response to the significant reduction of forests due to charcoal production and unnecessary tree cutting. The first event took place 50 km north of Bangui, where the government organized a mass tree-planting experiment involving approximately 4,000 residents from nearby villages. Each year, special lessons are taught in schools to educate children about the importance of trees, and tree planting activities are conducted to teach them how to plant and care for seedlings. The initiative aims to restore the country's forests and address the acute problem of deforestation.
