National Anthem Day is observed in Romania every July 29. This commemorative day marks the first performance of the national anthem, "Deșteaptă-te, române!" (Awaken thee, Romanian!), which took place in Brașov in 1848. The lyrics were penned by poet Andrei Mureșianu during a revolutionary period in the Austrian Empire, while the music is believed to have originated from a sentimental song by Anton Pann. Although it is not a non-working holiday, official ceremonies are organized, attended by the President, political leaders, religious figures, war veterans, and army officers. During these events, the full version of the anthem is performed, accompanied by a 21-gun salute, celebrating the themes of patriotism and liberty that the anthem represents. After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, "Deșteaptă-te, române!" was declared the official anthem of Romania, further solidifying its significance in the nation's history.
