Myanmar Women’s Day is observed in Myanmar every July 3, commemorating the establishment of the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs (MNCWF) in 1996. The holiday was designated in 1998 to celebrate the committee's founding and aims to promote women's educational status and protect them from abuse and violence. Historically, women in Myanmar have enjoyed a unique social status with equal legal and economic rights as men, although recent economic challenges have negatively impacted their access to education and job opportunities. The MNCWF, primarily composed of the wives of top officials, has faced criticism from activists for its perceived ineffectiveness in addressing women's issues. Alongside Myanmar Women’s Day, the country also observes International Women’s Day on March 8.
