Disabled and Elderly Persons Day is observed in Tajikistan every July 8. This official observance was established to recognize and affirm the rights and interests of people with disabilities and elderly individuals as integral members of society. The initiative to celebrate this day was proposed by the National Union of People with Disabilities of Tajikistan (NUPDT), which has around 50,000 beneficiaries and aims to promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities. On this day, various events such as forums, conferences, exhibitions, fairs, and concerts are organized by the government, local authorities, and public organizations. The observance also aligns with the broader framework of social protection established by the Law on Social Protection of Disabled Persons, adopted in 2010, and the National Program for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, initiated in 2017. Additionally, Tajikistan observes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, which was established by the UN General Assembly in 1992.
