Border Police Day, also known as Border Guard Day, is officially observed in Moldova every year on June 10. This professional holiday was established by a presidential decree in 1995 to honor the country's border guards. The roots of the Moldovan Border Police can be traced back to the formation of the Border Guard Troops in 1992, which were based on Soviet KGB Border Troops. The Border Police is responsible for guarding Moldova's borders with Romania and Ukraine and controlling the border with the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic (Transnistria). Its main tasks include combating illegal border crossings, illegal migration, and cross-border crime. The holiday is primarily celebrated within the professional community, and while it is a working day unless it falls on a weekend, it does not attract significant public attention.
