Military Gendarmerie Day (Święto Żandarmerii Wojskowej) is observed in Poland every June 13 as an official professional holiday. This day celebrates the Military Gendarmerie, an independent law enforcement agency within the Polish Armed Forces responsible for military police duties. The origins of this observance date back to June 13, 1831, when light infantry carabinier battalions were established to participate in the November Uprising against the Russian Empire. The modern Military Gendarmerie was officially created on September 1, 1990, and the holiday was first celebrated in 1994. Initially, the day commemorated the anniversary of the Battle of Dębe Wielkie, but in August 2001, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland formally approved June 13 as the designated date. The holiday is typically a working day unless it coincides with a weekend or a movable public holiday.
