It was launched in 2015 by the Yeats Society Sligo to mark the poet's 150th birthday and is primarily celebrated in the Yeats Building in Sligo, Ireland, where a variety of events such as lectures, poetry readings, performances, and ceremonies take place. Participants globally also engage in the celebration by sharing their favorite Yeats poems through various media using the hashtags #YeatsDay and #YeatsDaySligo. The Yeats Society of Ireland, founded in 1958, plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting Yeats's legacy and that of his family.
