June 17: Aviation Day (Romania)

National Aviation Day is observed in Romania every June 17, commemorating the first powered flight of the A Vlaicu I by Romanian engineer Aurel Vlaicu in 1910. The day celebrates the contributions of early aviation pioneers, particularly Vlaicu and Traian Vuia, who is recognized for his initial attempts at building an airplane in 1906. The Romanian Air Force was officially established in 1913, and civil aviation development began in 1920. Romania has a well-developed airport infrastructure, featuring sixteen commercial airports, with notable ones including Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport. The flag carrier, TAROM, alongside other airlines like Blue Air, represents the country's aviation sector. National Aviation Day also highlights Romania's membership in international aviation organizations, such as the International Civil Aviation Organization since 1965.
