Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, also known as Anti-Fascist Resistance Day, is observed in Croatia every June 22. This public holiday commemorates the establishment of the Sisak People's Liberation Partisan Detachment in 1941, which marked the beginning of the anti-fascist Partisan movement in Axis-occupied Yugoslavia. The first resistance unit was formed in the Brezovica forest near Sisak, with founding members including Janko Bobetko, who later became a prominent general in the Croatian War of Independence. The Sisak Detachment consisted of 79 members, primarily Croats, and gained support from other Yugoslav nations as the movement spread. Today, the holiday is celebrated with various events across the country, recognizing the significance of the resistance against fascism.
