Police Day (Święto Policji) is observed in Poland every June 24, celebrating the national police force's contributions to public safety and order. Established in 1995, this professional holiday commemorates the formation of the Polish State Police in 1919, which was later replaced by the Citizen’s Militia during the communist regime. Following the fall of communism, the police force was reestablished, leading to reforms initiated by the Minister of Interior and Administration, Krzysztof Kozłowski. The current Polish police force consists of approximately 100,000 officers and 25,000 civilian employees, organized into various subdivisions, including Criminal Police and Traffic Police. In addition to the national police, many towns and villages have their own city guards who oversee local road safety and public order, although their jurisdiction is limited to misdemeanors.
